       Perfect Burgers and Variations

hamburger-recipe
Making the perfect burger ground beef recipe is as easy as 1,2,3.

It is an easy way of serving nutritious food to your family.

Basic Hamburger Mixture

  • Season 1 lb (500 g) Lean or Medium Ground Beef and combine with beaten egg and ½ cup (50 ml) bread crumbs or oatmeal.
  • Shape into 4 - 6 (¾ in./2 cm thick) evenly shaped flat patties.
  • Barbeque or pan fry until centers are no longer pink, turning once - about 5 minutes per side. Well done burgers are brown throughout and juices show no pink.
Seasoning Variations:

Try adding one of these spices combos to your basic mixture.
  • 2 chopped green onions
1 teaspoon (5 ml) ginger and 1 tablespoon (15 ml) soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) each of oregano and basil
  • 1 small chopped onion
1 teaspoon (5 ml) each of chili powder and dried mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
    ¾ teaspoon seasoned salt
    ½ teaspoon dry mustard
    ¼ teaspoon pepper

Be creative and go beyond the basic bun:

Try some specialty bread or rolls such as herb, sun-dried tomato.

The choices are limitless.

Tips for Juicier Burgers:

Handle gently to keep in the moisture

Do not flatten patties during cooking and turn only once.

Chill 2 hours before cooking and patties will hold together better.

Tips for Low Fat Burgers:

Replace whole egg with 2 tablespoons of egg whites

Use extra-lean ground beef

I remember making biscuits and adding baking soda instead of baking powder.  The biscuits looked fine but were very salty and bitter.
