Shepherds Pie Recipe

This Shepherds Pie recipe is an easy ground beef recipe with extras.
The mushroom soup adds flavour and moisture. Cheddar cheese which is melted on top of the potatoes adds visual and taste appeal.
Quick Shepherds Pie Recipe
An Easy Beef Recipe
- ½ cup (125 ml) chopped onion
- ½ cup (125 ml) diced celery
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 (10 oz/284 ml) can cream of mushroom soup
- 1 lb (450 g) lean hamburger
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) milk
- ¼ teaspoon (1.5 ml) pepper
- 2 cups (500 ml) hot mashed potatoes
- ¼ cup (60 ml) grated cheddar cheese
- ¼ teaspoon (1.5 ml) beef stock granules
Brown beef then remove from pan and drain off fat. Add onion, celery and garlic to pan and sauté. Return beef to pan then stir in half the soup, salt, pepper and beef granules. Press into 9-inch greased pie plate. Bake at 350º F. for 25 minutes.
Cover with mashed potatoes. Spread remainder of soup on top of potatoes. Sprinkle with grated cheese and return to hot oven 10 minutes or until cheese is melted.
Health-Conscious Tips
- Use low-salt,low-fat mushroom soup
- Use ¼ cup reduced-salt beef broth in place of beef granules
- After draining fat off of beef, pour boiling water over beef to remove even more fat
