Savory Swiss Steak
This is my family's favorite Swiss Steak recipe containing beef steak and tomatoes.
The tomatoes help to tenderize the round steak.
Celery and onions add extra flavour.
Potatoes can be added near the end to make a complete meal.
Beef Round Steak Recipe- ½ cup flour
- 2 teaspoons dry mustard
- salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 (19 oz.) can tomatoes
- 1 cup sliced onions
- ½ cup chopped celery
- 3 carrots, chopped
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- salt & pepper (second amount)
Combine flour, mustard, salt & pepper in a small bowl. Sprinkle meat with mixture.
Pound mixture into steak (this is unnecessary if cooked in a slow cooker). Cut meat into serving portions.
Brown on both sides. Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 1½ to 2 hours. Makes 4 to 5 servings.
This is made even more tender and flavourful when done in the Slow Cooker
